Just like Duchamp placed a urinal in an art gallery, the band used a ready-made plastic bag as its logo. This is determined by the narrative aesthetics in the band’s music—slippers, wine bottles, plastic bags, pigs…many of the lively “vulgar tastes” of the market and Lo-Fi constitute the aesthetic core of WuTiaoRen, and also reflect the contemporary nature of the band’s music. The image represented by the plastic bag, in the words of band member Renko, is “another kind of naked reality”. It is cheap, gaudy, light, and ubiquitous; it has no fixed shape, and has nothing to do with beauty or ugliness; it is even a symbol of globalization, which is exactly the worldview and methodology of WuTiaoRen’s art. In terms of expression, it is anti-design: the graphics abandon the usual vectorization of logos, adopt photographic images, and add ordinary black bodies without any sense of design. The form of expression seeks to be consistent with the content, just like their musical works, removing routines, transcending technology (beauty and ugliness), and facing reality directly.
就像杜尚⽤⼩便池放置于美术馆,以现成品塑料袋作为乐队标志,这是由乐队⾳乐作品中的叙述性美学所决定——拖鞋、酒瓶、塑料袋、猪……诸多市井、Lo-Fi的鲜活的“俗趣”构成了五条⼈的美学核⼼,也是乐队⾳乐当代性的体现。塑料袋所代表的意象,⽤乐队成员仁科的话说就是“另外⼀种⾚裸裸的真实”,它廉价、艳俗、轻盈、⽆处不在;它没有固定形体,⽆关美丑;它甚⾄是全球化的标志,这正是五条⼈艺术的世界观和⽅法论。在表现形式上,它是反设计的:图形摒弃标志惯⽤的⽮量化,采⽤摄影图⽚,同时加上毫⽆设计感的普通⿊体。形式表达以求和内容达到⼀致,就像他们的⾳乐作品⼀样,去除套路,跨越技术(美丑),直⾯现实。
